Cultural venue in pop-up mode
Concerts, art and cooking events: what is to take place here sounds varied. Das Koho opens in Altdorf in the fall. The team promises a creative ambience in a sustainably renovated old town house.

Altdorf – The cables are still dangling from the ceiling inside, but soon things will look completely different at Kiliansgasse 3. The furniture for the interior design has been ordered and the concept for “Das Koho” has also been finalized. This can currently be seen most clearly in the virtual world. The website for the new cultural project has been online for a few days now.
What is the Koho?
Culture, working and living under one roof: this is the vision of Günther Kraußer and his fellow campaigners for “Das Koho”. The Koho, the former bakery at Kiliansgasse 3, is to become a new cultural venue, event location, co-working space and temporary home in Altdorf. The name is not reminiscent of houses, but of entire districts in London (Soho) and Nuremberg (Goho), but the association is no coincidence. “I’ve spent a lot of time in London, Soho is a favorite place of mine,” says Kraußer. “The variety that awaits you there, the courage to try something new, and also the mix of culture and gastronomy: Somehow it all fits in here too,” he says about the new cultural venue in Altdorf. A touch of Soho and Goho, the abbreviation for Nuremberg’s trendy Gostenhof district, is to waft through Altdorf with the Koho. “There were plenty of reasons for the K,” says initiator Kraußer: “Culture, concerts, cooking, cooperation.” In the old town house in Kiliansgasse, which he is currently renovating, this is reflected in the different floors. An event venue with a small stage and an event kitchen is to be created on the first floor. The first floor will be converted into a co-working space or seminar room, which can also be used as an exhibition space. And under the roof and in the adjacent building, high-quality furnished apartments will be created that can be rented on a temporary basis. One month in the 74 square meter furnished apartment on the top floor costs 1500 euros.
What will be on offer at Koho?
“There will be a curated program. But you can also simply rent the space to celebrate or work. Or you can implement an artistic or social project there,” says Kraußer. The program, which a team of three people is currently working on, will be a mix of concerts, cooking events, future discourse and art projects. “Being able to organize music was the initial motivation for me”,
says Kraußer. The cooking events are to take place with various partners; there will be no fixed catering.
Most of the Koho events will take place “in pop-up mode”, i.e. for a limited time. The Koho team wants to start with one or two events a month. The word “future” also comes up again and again when Kraußer talks about Koho. The program should “deal with the future of society in the broadest sense”.
Who can take part?
In addition to initiator Günther Kraußer, other team members take care of the Koho’s appearance, the program and social media. There are partners for the kitchen, finance and administration, IT support and housekeeping. The Koho is not a non-profit organization, but a private limited company. However, Kraußer’s vision is “that people can get involved where they enjoy it, with the intensity they want and for as long as they feel like it”. Individual creatives, artist groups or social initiatives should be able to use the building for their projects free of charge. “What is on the website, these ideas, this concept, should not be the end point, but the starting point from which we are now moving forward,” says Kraußer.
